Safety
2009 Galant
Safety starts with the Galant chassis. Extremely rigid unibody construction with floor crossmembers, high-rigidity side sills, side-impact door beams, and front and rear crumple zones provide an excellent architecture for safety. And with the Galant’s advanced dual-stage front SRS airbags† as well as front and rear curtain airbags†, you will feel safe everywhere you go. What’s more, LATCH system anchors and tethers for child seats greatly simplify the installation process and keep child seats anchored more securely in vehicles.

Galant engineers realized that the best safety features are the ones that help you avoid an accident in the first place. That’s why the Galant comes with rack-and-pinion steering, fully independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, available ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and traction control (available on Sport V6 and Ralliart), and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). All told, the Galant is engineered to keep you driving safely for a long time.
Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) technology used by the Galant helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. The system “pulses” the brakes up to 10 times per second, modulating wheel rotation to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.
LATCH System
The LATCH system offers lower anchors and tethers for child-seat installation, greatly simplifying the installation of child safety seats, making it easier to keep your child safe.
Safety is a two-way street. It requires your attention and cooperation. Please remember to fasten your safety belt, drive responsibly and obey all traffic laws.

†Airbags are part of a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). To decrease the risk of injury from a deploying airbag, always wear your seatbelt, sit upright in the middle of the seat and do not lean against the door. Always place children 12 and under in the rear seat and use appropriate child restraints. Never place a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat. See your Owner's Manual and instructions provided with your child restraint for additional information.
